Marlington Hires New AD

Chad Hilliard, new Athletic Director and Career & Technical Education Director for Marlington High School.

Chad Hilliard and his wife, Nicole, reside in Alliance with their three children. Chad joins Marlington Local Schools after spending fifteen years with the Minerva Local School District as a teacher and coach. During his tenure at Minerva he led the wrestling team to back to back Eastern Buckeye Conference titles in 2020 and 2021 along with being named Coach of the Year in 2021. His teams won multiple Sectional Championships along with a District Championship in 2022. During his 13 years as the head coach at Minerva the program produced 44 individual state qualifiers including 14 state placers. Under the direction of Coach Hilliard, Minerva added girls wrestling to the athletic program. During the first 5 years of the program they have had 4 State Champions along with 6 additional state placers.

Not only has Chad been successful in the classroom and as a coach, he also plays a vital role in the success of Hilliard Builders. Hilliard Builders is a family business that provides construction services such as roofing, siding, and decks along with other various projects. They provide service and installation for projects as a regional company servicing Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Massachusetts. Chad has been a leader in the company taking on roles that deal with sales, scheduling, inventory and installation at all levels. His knowledge and experience in the trade industry along with his willingness to partner with local businesses will be valuable in his role of being the Director of our CTE programs.

“Marlington has been the model of consistency in both academics and athletics. The administrative leadership has embraced me and will guide me through the upcoming weeks to ensure this is a seamless transition,” shared Hilliard.

Hilliard continued, “I feel like I have won the lottery. Having the opportunity to work with so many successful programs has me beyond excited. I cannot wait to help coaches and teachers continue to develop their programs and help make a positive impact on the entire community.

Steve Miller, the outgoing Athletic Director and Career & Technical Education Director, will lead the transition of Hilliard into the role. Steve has been the district’s leader in this role for the past nine years during which he oversaw the installation of the turf football field, construction of the softball training facility, home and visitor restrooms/concession stands at the Marlington Stadium, the installation multiple new scoreboards, expansion of the engineering career tech program, founder of the district’s Champion Day, development of the partnership for athletic training services with Akron Children’s Hospital, and the updating of all athletic school record boards. Above all else Mr. Miller has been the biggest supporter of all of our students!
